Potsdam’s harbor, once the wharf of steamers at the eastern bank of the Havel River and since 1965/66 at the western bank, is situated in the historical centre of town between the main station and the Landtag next to the historical pleasance (Lustgarten) and to the Freundschaftsinsel bounded by the arms of the Havel “Alte Fahrt” and “Neue Fahrt”.
Modern passenger ships as well as steamboats of the Weisse Flotte Potsdam (white fleet) put to sea from here for round trips and full-day excursions. The offer ranges from 1.5 hour round trips to the palaces to all-day trips through the area of the river Havel and to the capital, Berlin, and to numerous evening cruises. The highlights of each season are the fleet review in spring, the “nocturnal impressions of the palaces” (10 evening cruises along the magnificently illuminated palaces of the Hohenzollern dynasty in summer) and, last but not least, “Wannsee in flames” (fireworks at Berlin’s most famous lake) at the end of the season.
The harbour restaurant "El Puerto" invites its guests into the canopy of palm trees in the winter and onto a Mediterranean terrace in the summer.
